Photographing for the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts has made me understand the importance of capturing the "moment". Every artist has moments that are as unique as the artists themselves. A moment can be the passionate expression on their face as they perform, the moment they realize they have nailed the performance, or simply the reaction to the applause. Capturing these moments on film is essential to performance photography, but I am also interested in capturing the moments in between the "moments". I like to see what happens in between, during the split second when they are not performing. This usually happens during the transitions between songs. After the applause has died and just before the first note of the next song, when the artist has let their guard down for just an instant. This is when I click my shutter.
